Save Money
Community colleges are more affordable. Tuition is going to be significantly cheaper than nearly all 4-year universities. Community colleges can provide financial aid, grants, scholarships, and in some cases, free tuition is also available.
Career Exploration
Most people understand the value/benefit of an advanced education. However, most students don’t know what career they want to pursue or change their career path in the first year or two of college. Community colleges, like CNCC, provide students opportunities to reset their educational journey, and time to figure out what they want to study without the giant price tag.
Professional Certifications
Career progress is often tied to advanced degrees and skill development, usually through costly graduate school programs. But community colleges like CNCC provide one- or two-year certificates in many fields, including accounting, cybersecurity, and aviation maintenance. Many of these careers are in very high-demand fields and students graduating in two years with an associate degree earn a higher starting salary than those graduating with a general bachelor’s degree.
Job Opportunities
Community colleges like CNCC often offer career and technical programs that lead to unique careers that may not be available through a 4-year university. Additionally, an associate degree can also get you working in a career faster and provide greater earning potential than simply having a high school diploma.
Class Size
It is easy to be intimidated by or feel lost in many early 4-year university classes. Some of these core classes can have upwards of 100 students. The average class size at Colorado Northwestern Community College is about 20 students in the general education spaces. Though the classes cover the same materials, this means the likelihood of you getting one-on-one time with your professors at CNCC and having them know who you are is high. Smaller class size provides an easy atmosphere to ask questions.
